Google Pixel runs Stock Android without a lot of features and options added by smartphone manufacturers. There is no app designed specifically for the Pixel phone; All Android apps work on Pixel devices the same way they work on devices from any other manufacturer. However, the superior specs of the Pixel devices give it a performance edge that allows resource-intensive Android apps to run smoothly.
Google Pixel 4A is definitely the best budget phone with a high-end camera in the US. It has a full set of features when considering a mid-priced phone. However, some features such as automatic music recognition, camera hole, always-on display, and NFC can be further enhanced by third-party Android apps. Here is a list of the best Android applications for your Google Pixel 4A.
Best Google Pixel 4A Apps
1. Now Playing History
Google Pixel 4A can not only detect songs playing around you, but also keep track of those songs that have been captured. You can access it by going to Settings -> Sound -> Auto Recognize Music -> Auto Recognize Music History. However, it does not allow you to group these songs into favorites or see where you heard the song.
To fill in those blanks, here’s an app called Now Playing History. Not only does it let you see your automatic music recognition history, but it also lets you find out where you heard the song and group the songs into your favorites. In addition to that, it also allows you to delete songs from Auto Music Recognition history. This can be useful if your Pixel 4A detects something you’re not proud of. Overall, it’s a must-have app that really complements the Pixel 4A’s automatic music recognition feature.

2. Trigger Task Launcher
The Pixel 4A is one of the few mid-range phones with NFC technology. Mainly, NFC helps you pay with Google Pay with just one click. But, NFC has no limits, and if you pair it with an inexpensive NFC tag, you can do some pretty cool NFC action. For example, you can keep an NFC tag near your bed, and while you’re heading to bed, just tap the NFC tag with your Pixel 4A to turn off Wi-Fi and GPS, turn on DND mode on your phone and set the alarm for 7am. And reverse all these settings in the morning with another NFC tag, etc.
In order to set up custom NFC actions on your Pixel 4A, you’ll need two things.
Once you have them, head to the trigger task launcher. And create a new task, configure your actions and write them on the NFC tag. In case of problems, a detailed explanation of programming NFC tags has been written. These NFC tags can also be reprogrammed so you can keep doing cool and creative things.
3. Energy Ring
The Pixel 4A has a nearly bezel-less display with a camera hole in the top left. You will be able to make good use of your camera’s hole space with the Energy Ring app. It displays the battery level via a micro-ring wrapped around the cam hole space. The Energy Ring acts as a real-time battery level indicator. It’s also smart enough to turn off when watching video or playing games.
Moreover, you can also customize the width of the ring around the camera hole or set the color of the ring to change automatically when the battery is low.

4. Notification LED
The Pixel 4A does not have a notification LED. To enjoy similar functionality, you can use the Notification Light app. Which allows you to set the notification ring around the camera hole. Unlike the Energy Ring, the notification ring is not always on and only appears when you receive a notification. It is a good easy to use app and you will be able to know that a notification on your phone is waiting for you remotely.
Note that the Notification Light app is designed for S10e and S10 devices. So you will have to manually adjust the position of the ring under Notification Light -> Dimensions. Moreover, the Notification Light app also offers different LED modes. For example, Edge Mode displays the notification LED on the edges of the screen similar to Samsung’s Edge Lighting feature.

5. Custom DOA
The Pixel 4A has an OLED display with always-on display. It displays the time, weather information, currently playing song and notification icon on the always-on screen. Custom AOD is an application that allows you to set wallpapers on the always-on display. You can choose to keep your own photo or select a wallpaper from the app.
Note that setting your picture to Always On Display may cause screen burn-in. Therefore, I recommend using in-app wallpapers because they are half-pixel images or half-pane images and do not harm your screen.

Unlike the previous Google Pixel 3A, the Pixe 4A does not have an Active Edge feature. For those of you unfamiliar with this feature, this feature lets you tap the bottom bezel of your Pixel to launch Google Assistant, silence alerts, incoming call notifications, and more. But with the help of SideSqueeze+, you can also get Active Edge on your Pixel 4A. The app uses the phone’s barometer to detect the pressure change on the device.
Squeeze+ offers you many actions like turning on the flashlight, skipping songs, mute your device, etc. to adjust it with a simple gesture. The application is very simple and the configuration is self-explanatory. If you want a step-by-step guide, here’s how to set up SideSqueeze+ on the Pixel 4A.
The new Pixel 4A comes with 100 GB of free Google Cloud storage for the first 3 months. To manage storage, you can use Google’s own Google One app. Shows you shared storage usage for Google Photos, Gmail, and Google Drive. It is also a good application to manage and clean up files and delete large files from Google Drive and spam from Gmail.
