Posted on

The official Twitter app is handy if you don’t like to tweet frequently, but if you do, you’ll find plenty of useful features you’ll miss. Luckily, there are plenty of free alternative apps to Twitter that you can use on your phone. These third-party apps include features like customizable interfaces, post scheduling, and various navigation options to open links, to name a few.

The official Twitter app has come a long way from having no extra features to being an app you can totally rely on. Most people don’t use alternative Twitter apps anymore because these apps only display Twitter in a different design. However, if you want Twitter apps that focus on better usability, be sure to check out my favorites here. let’s start.

Best Twitter Alternative Apps for Android

1. Falcon pro 3

Falcon pro is one of my favorite Twitter apps. It may not offer all the features, but it really focuses on the things that matter most and presents it in a clean and elegant way. The app displays related interactions on the side panel, provides interactions based on portrait layout, and scrolling is highly optimized.

The only thing I don’t like is that this app costs $3.99 for one account and another $1.99 for each account you want to use, which is definitely more than worth it . Anyway, you can get the best Twitter app for Android with it.

2. Albatross for Twitter

The Twitter app was recently released based on Google’s Material Design. Right from customization, gestures, etc., this app offers lots of features and settings that you can change. However, one of the most overlooked features is the ability to display the feed in chronological order.

By default, the swipe to skip option is enabled and takes you back to the feeds home page when you swipe right, which is annoying if you’re in the middle of a long channel. Think of it as a waterfall and turn the “” option off.Swipe to ignore.

3. Owl

Owly can give any other Twitter client the idea to benefit from their experience. The interface of this app is smartly designed and offers all the features in a minimalist way. As it is a Twitter app that has been around for a very long time and has updated the design and features according to the latest trends.

  • The Twitter app is free and as clear as Albatross.
  • The ability to add people to read view, so you can see their every action and tweet.

negatives

  • It lacks popular content data, it only shows global trends, but country trends and city trends are not available even in pro mode.
  • Professional mode is available, but it does not offer good features. All features available are tweets and tones change for each task. Anyway, the free version offers everything you need.

4. Twidere

The last two apps in the list have good features, but they totally fail in the service of notifications. Speaking of notifications, Twidere handles notifications like a champ, and even better than the official Twitter app. It tells you everything you like and what you commented on and mentions it. This app provides features like merging notifications to group all notifications together. If you have multiple Twitter accounts, you can even set up a different notification sound for each account.

Benefits

  • Native integration with Buffer for scheduling tweets.
  • This is clearly the best Twitter app for notifications.

negatives

  • It doesn’t have the cleanest interface by default, but it has plenty of customization options that add the ability to easily change the look of what you can rely on.
  • Like Owly, it only shows popular content around the world.
  • There is no possibility for people to forward messages. 90% of the content is not downloaded and you just have to re-download it.

5. Fenix 2

Fenix is a completely different app which mainly focuses on content rather than likes, tweets, replies. By default, it shows you likes and retweets with a single click on the Tweet, but until you have the option to reset it. All you can see is the Tweet that has no likes, retweets, replies, etc., so you won’t be affected by people’s decisions and your view will be specific to each Tweet.

  • Gesture navigation with single tap, double tap and long tap which can be reset for different actions like reply, quote, unlock quick actions etc.
  • A better notification system you can rely on.

negatives

  • You obviously can’t see any replies to a tweet, it’s not a scam for an app like this, but that’s the only thing I missed while using the app.
  • This is a paid app and costs $5.99. Since this is the only content-focused app, we don’t have an alternative.

6. Tuecha Lite

The name of this app itself tells the whole story. If you are looking for an app that takes up less storage space and consumes less data, then Tuecha Lite is better than the official Twitter Lite app. However, if you’re not a fan of the 4Chan message board-style interface, you might not like the app at all. One feature I really like is that you can resume browsing from where you left off, even after restarting the app.

  • Although it is a lite app, it offers all features including popular notifications and directions.
  • You can enable the option not to upload photos and videos by default.
  • The ability to compress a video to a lower resolution while it is playing.
  • The best abstracts are listed in chronological order.

negatives

  • I can’t extend the app further than it is, but the interface is complex and time-consuming to understand.
  • It costs $5.99 to remove ads and to get a few other small features.

7. Hoot Suite

It is not a Twitter application but much more than that. It can be used as a planner and to store drafts to post to Twitter and other social media platforms. Although it is not a Twitter app, you can access your tweets, profile, and notifications directly within the app. You can also like, retweet and reply.

Benefits

  • Posting can be done on multiple social media platforms at once which is the main feature of this app.
  • It supports all major social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Linked In and even YouTube.

negatives

  • Only 3 accounts can be added in the free version, but I can say that is quite reasonable.
  • Replies to tweets are not visible, that’s why this application is used as a secondary application for Twitter.

final thoughts

I’ve tried over 25 Twitter apps that have good ratings like Talon, Uber Social, TweetPane, Robird, etc. But among all these apps, the apps in this list are very good and have basic functions like being lightweight, focus on content and personalization etc. What Twitter apps do you use?
