How to change what you search for in Bumble

Posted on

You can find a date on Bumble, but that’s not all! Bumble also gives you the option to search for potential business partners. You can also search for friends through the app if you’re not in a romantic mood.

In seconds, you can set your preferences and search for new people to add to your social circle. Here’s how to adjust your settings and get the most out of this app.

Who do you want to meet?

Bumble offers three search modes, while typical dating apps only allow you to search for potential romantic partners. With Bumble, you can also search for people for networking opportunities, as well as a suitable morning jog company or someone to drink coffee with after work.

Regardless of your gender and your reason for using Bumble, you may change your mind at some point. If you decide that you are no longer looking for dates or potential business partners, you can easily move on to finding friends.

Change what you are looking for

Three modes are available: BumbleDate, BumbleBFF and BumbleBizz. Here’s how you can change your preferences and have the app show you your new interests.

  1. Launch the Bumble app on your device.
  2. Tap the Bumble app logo that appears on the swipe screen.
  3. Swipe the modes to find the one you want and tap it.

You have now selected a new mode and are ready to start browsing. Note that you can change modes as many times as you want, and you can use all three in the same profile. Bumble doesn’t force you to choose because your needs may change over time. However, all three modes require you to make contact with a match within the day from the time you matched. After that, the match expires.

Also be aware that, if you are a woman looking for girlfriends, you will only be able to connect with other women through BFF mode. The same goes for men. For now, it is not possible to create male-female friendships.

How to text your partner

Your match’s messaging on Bumble may be slightly different depending on the mode. The basic rule that applies to all three is: you can only message someone if you have both swiped right and approved the match creation.

Bumble Change what you are looking for

In date mode

When you pair with someone, the “Boom” screen appears on your device. If you have the First Shot privilege, you can message the other person. The other way is as follows:

  1. Tap the gray Bumble logo. It’s in the upper right corner of your screen.
  2. Browse your connections to see your matches.
  3. Tap the person you want to message and write a cool icebreaker!

Note that you can’t be the one to start the conversation if you haven’t been granted the First Hit privilege.

In BFF mode

Although this mode is also time sensitive and you only have 24 hours to reply to a message or start a conversation, you are matched with someone of the same gender. That’s why both of you can send the first message.

In Bizz mode

Bizz mode gives you a bit more freedom. Here, you have one week to start talking to your correspondent or replying to his message. However, you can only do this if you are favored with the First Hit option.

Find your ideal partner

Bumble decided to do more for its users by allowing them to find new friendships or someone to work with. Switching between the three modes is a snap, so you can easily adjust your preferences to suit your mood. Once you meet someone whose interests match yours, you’re ready to start the conversation and maybe build a great relationship.
