You may have never heard of Blloc before, but the Berlin-based company creates the absolutely brilliant Ratio – a launcher that aims to fundamentally change the way you see your smartphone and how you use it.
The app is still in beta phase Alpha Blloc Ratio is the most unique option and one of the most compelling Android launcher apps I’ve used in a long time, thanks in part to the sheer thoughtfulness that went into creating it.
It’s designed to make you more aware of your device usage and reduce daily distractions, while helping you reduce overuse with a simpler user experience.
There are many unique launchers for Android smartphones, but most of the time they are only unique in terms of appearance. On the other hand, Ratio is not only different in looks, it tries to make you use your phone less with features like monochrome mode, hide apps from home screen, ratings , device usage time for each app and category, etc., the best thing is that the user interface is much more different and easy to use. Here’s how to install Ratio on your Android phone.
How to install Ratio Launcher on your Android phone
Since Blloc tries to make Ratio a great experience for each specific model, Ratio Launcher is not yet available on Play Store. You can get a custom version for your smartphone by going to the Blloc website, scrolling down and selecting your phone model. Only a few Oneplus and Pixel phones are available so far, but there are also Samsung and Xiaomi phones in the next line. If your phone model is not available, you can try to choose the one whose dimensions are closest to your phone. Enter your email address and click Request access.
Since it is a process first come, first served It is expected that there will be a few weeks of waiting. You will receive a small survey during this period. Since Ratio is still in beta stage, this survey will be helpful in understanding what the user is looking for.
After completing the survey, you will soon receive a Ratio invite code. There are two versions, Pro and Light to the Blloc. The Pro version has more features like monochrome mode, app-based rotation, etc., and many more features to come. But it’s $29 and you need a Windows or Mac computer to set up the app, but you can only install Ratio Light for free on your phone.
1. Install the report light
Installing Ratio Light is as easy as installing any launcher app on your phone. Simply download the Ratio Light APK file when you receive it by email. Click on the download notification and install the Blloc Services application.
Once the app is installed, open the app and you can find the Blloc Lines option, also install this app by clicking the install button beside it. Unlike other launchers, Ratio won’t ask you to set it as default. You need to open Settings -> Apps -> More button -> Default apps -> Home and select an option Report.
Now you will get a pop-up asking you to enter the verification code. Simply paste the verification code you received in the email and click “Check. That’s it, you are now on the home screen, you can customize it according to your favorite content.
2. Install Ratio Pro
To install Ratio Pro, you need to open your Windows/Mac computer and download the corresponding desktop application from the email. Install and open the app.
Now on your phone, go to Settings -> About phone and tap Proof number 7 times to enable developer options. Return to the settings page and find an option usb debugging Under Developer options, enable it. Connect your phone using a USB cable to your desktop/laptop computer. A pop-up window should appear asking “Allow USB debugging.
Click on Allow And you will be prompted to enter the verification code, you need to paste the verification code you received in the email and click on Okay. The Ratio Launcher will start downloading to your phone.
Just accept the permissions and the launcher will start installing directly from your PC. The installation process may take 2-3 minutes.
Once the installation is complete, you need to go to Settings -> Applications -> More button -> Default apps -> Home screen and select ratio launcher. That’s it, you’re on the home screen, and you can customize it to your liking.
Although the Ratio Launcher is not yet available for all devices, for me I found the dedicated Oneplus 7 Pro option to work well with the Samsung Note 8. However, this may not be the case every time . But since the pro version is now free as a beta app, it’s definitely worth a try. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
