Why is my Kik message stuck on “S”

Posted on

Kik, one of the world’s favorite messaging apps, has quite a refreshing approach. Especially to those who value their privacy. But why is this? Well, this app doesn’t require your phone number to let you chat with your family and friends – just your email address.

Even if you have been using Kik for a while, you may still encounter new issues. Like being stuck on S, for example. Why does this happen? What does it mean? Read this article to find out.

The truth about being stuck on S

Where is that S, and how do you get stuck on it?

When you message on Kik, the process is very similar to other messaging apps. Before the message is sent, you can see three dots on the screen. This means the app is trying to connect and send the message.

Then you will see a checkmark and the letter S (as in Sent), and when the message is delivered, the letter D will then replace the S. When the person you sent a message to opens and reads the message, you will see the check mark and the letter R.

If your post is marked with an S for a while and it doesn’t change to D and later to R, it could be for one of the following reasons.

1. The person who received a message is offline

If the person you sent a message to isn’t connected to a Wi-Fi network or isn’t using their mobile data, your message won’t be able to be delivered. The same is true if their device is turned off.

However, as soon as the user to whom the message appears online, they will receive your message. Even if they don’t open the app, once they are logged in, they will get a notification about a new message through Kik.

2. The person you messaged blocked you

If you try to message someone, but your message isn’t delivered for hours, that user may have blocked you. That’s not always the reason, of course, so don’t jump to conclusions, especially if the person you’re texting doesn’t use their phone as much as you do.

How do you even block people on Kik? In a few simple steps:

  1. Open the chat with the person you want to block.
  2. At the top of your screen, choose Display name.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Choose Block (person’s name).
  5. Tap Block again to confirm.

Another way is through the parameters:

  1. Go to Settings and choose Privacy.
  2. Tap Blocklist then the + sign.
  3. Tag the person you want to block.
  4. Tap Block, and you’re done.

When you want to unblock someone, repeat these steps and choose Unblock at the end.

3. The person who received a message deleted the app

Another reason could be: the person you are trying to message deleted the app and no longer uses it. To check if this is true, try to reach them through another app or call them. Maybe they are now using a new device and they haven’t installed the Kik app yet.

When they decide to use the app again, reinstall it, and log in, they’ll get your message.

4. The app bug

Nobody is perfect. Apps are prone to temporary bugs, especially when trying to update their service and provide a better experience for their customers. If you think your message is not being delivered for a valid reason, try restarting your phone or even deleting the app and installing it again. This may resolve the potential bug.

Also, before uninstalling Kik, check the App Store or Google Play Store for available updates. The app may misbehave and leave your messages stuck on S because an update is pending.

Or, in theory, the Kik server may be down as well. The servers need maintenance, after all, so be patient. Once completed, all messages will be sent and delivered.

5. Too much cache causes problems

If you are an Android user, this may apply to you. The apps you use on your phone can accumulate too much cache data and cause performance issues. Therefore, Kik messages may not be delivered.

You can quickly fix this problem by deleting the cache. The process depends on your smartphone model, but it always looks like this:

  1. Go to Settings and scroll down to find apps.
  2. When you open apps, find Kik and tap to see details.
  3. Tap the Force Stop option to stop the app from running, then select Storage.
  4. Tap Clear cache and Clear data to remove unnecessary data from your phone and allow the app to work properly.

Better S than R

When you send a message, you expect a response. Being stuck on S can make you both impatient and nervous because you don’t know when the recipient will get the message. But don’t despair. As you have seen, there can be many reasons behind the forfeiture, and they may have nothing to do with you.

It’s always better than ending up with “Read” and no answer, isn’t it? Although, when you think about it, not responding is also a message.
